Multi-tieRED SYSTEM OF SUPPORT - (MTSS)

A Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is a framework that guides school districts to develop a system of support to ensure that every student receives a high quality education. It begins by the use of high-quality instructional materials, proactive planning to eliminating barriers to learning, and a tiered approach to provide students with the support they need when they need it based on current data.
Beyond the core instruction that is available to all learners, some students may require some additional support. Students’ needs are different from year to year. There are numerous accommodations included within the District Curriculum Accommodation Plan (DCAP) that teachers and specialists can make available as students need them. Additional supports may include:
Tier I Classroom Interventions: These brief interventions may be provided by the classroom teacher to focus on a particular skill that a student is working on.
Tier II Targeted Interventions: Specialists may provide a short-term targeted intervention to provide additional academic instruction or social-emotional support with small groups of students focused on a particular concept or set of prerequisite skills.
Tier III Intensive Interventions: These interventions are for students who require a more systematic approach and consistent support that occurs more frequently and may occur over a longer period of time than a targeted intervention.
